A KIND-hearted woman who has raised thousands of pounds for good causes has had her efforts rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Becky Fox is one of 8,000 inspirational people who have been picked to be a torchbearer in the Olympic Torch Relay during its 70-day tour of the UK ahead of the London 2012 Games.

The 41-year-old IT trainer was nominated for the honour by her partner, Tony Lewis.

She has undertaken several gruelling challenges over the past decade.

She used each opportunity to support good causes and has raised money for blind children by treking Peru, taken part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, completed two “jailbreak” challenges in Hereford for local charities, run a half-marathon in Hereford and, after a five-year wait to be picked, took on the London Marathon, raising £1,000 for Hereford Hospice.

The mum-of-one, of Powick, near Worcester, said she was honoured to have been chosen to carry the flame through Worcester on Thursday, May 24.

Miss Fox said: “It’s pretty unbelieveable.

“I never anticipated for any instant to be actually picked for it. It hasn’t hit home yet.

“When I did find out I had been picked as a torchbearer I was so emotional.”
