A CARE home is opening its doors to people who look after loved ones or friends with dementia.

Regent Care Home in School Road, St John’s, is hosting a dementia awareness afternoon between 2pm and 4pm tomorrow, where carers can find out more about the support available to them.

The event will give people who dedicate their time to caring for others and people with an interest in dementia care the opportunity to find a little support themselves and talk to the expert team at the home.

Guest speaker Liz Comerford from the Alzheimer’s Society will be on hand to answer any questions and provide information on the support available.

Manager of Regent Care Home, Laura Wilkes, said: “The work of people who care for loved ones can often go unseen and carers can feel very isolated – and at times exhausted. Liz and our team will be on hand to offer advice and carers will have the chance to connect with people who they can share their experiences with.

“There are so many people in our community who are living with dementia and we want to give those who care for them the chance to experience a well-deserved break and show them that they are not alone.”

The event is free of charge and carers will be able to enjoy afternoon tea.
