HUNGRY competitors were angling for a win when they sat down to see who could eat 48 fish fingers the quickest.

Ten competitors took part in the challenge at the Farriers Arms in Fish Street, Worcester, to raise more than £200 for Talking2Minds, a charity which helps veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Winner Sam Rudge, from Worcester, sailed through the challenge, finishing all four dozen fingers in just 17 minutes.

The event was organised by Talking2Minds volunteer Samantha Gyulay.

She said: “I was a bit nervous about it because it was the first one we’ve done but it went really well. We’re hoping to do another one.”

Organisers would like to thank landlady Mel Thompson, who donated and cooked all 1,000 fish fingers needed for the challenge, Pete Begley, who compered the event, and competitor Kirk Lee who raised the most money thanks to sponsorship.
