DESPITE the inclement spring weather, and the threat of flooding which may have made them abort their planned outing to the Beckford Silk Mill, we enjoyed an excellent visit.
We began with a presentation giving an insight into the history of the company and having explained the various processes required in producing the finished article.
We were given a tour of the mill where we were shown the process of printing the silk, followed by the washing and finishing of the silks, making one appreciate the trouble that is taken in making this wonderful material.
The tour ended in the mill showroom, where members enjoyed inspecting the many silk items on display and in many cases purchasing a souvenir, a fitting end to a most enjoyable visit.
The day was completed with a visit to the Bell Inn at Eckington, where members enjoyed a seasonal asparagus lunch hosted by Steve and Kerry Leighfield which rounded off a very pleasant day. For Probus Club enquiries, telephone 01905 820460.
