WHEN a man from Drakes Broughton, near Pershore, sent a poem he had penned to the Queen in commemoration of her Jubilee year, he didn’t expect to hear anything else about it.

But within a few weeks Neville Radburn had received a letter from Buckingham Palace with the royal seal on it.

The former chef decided to write the poem for the Queen to thank her for 60 years of service.

“I sent the letter to the Queen in late February or early March as a thank you for her service to the country and the Commonwealth.

“To my amazement I had a response within a few weeks.

“The various pictures of the Queen throughout her reign are lovely.”

This is not the first time that keen writer Mr Radburn has come into contact with royalty.

“I write a lot of poetry. I have written to the Queen Mother and had a letter back from Balmoral.

“I have the two letters now and I actually cooked for Prince Phillip in March 1968 when I was a chef at the Lygon Arms, Broadway.

“But I was still absolutely chuffed to bits when I got this recent card – it is absolutely fantastic.”
