ORGANISERS are fine tuning the programme to make sure that Pershore Midsummer Brass Festival 2012 builds on last year’s success.

The event will aim to ensure that visitors have every opportunity to hear some of the country’s top brass bands alongside many local favourites.

The popular one-day event takes place on Saturday, July 21, and runs for 12 hours in four venues in the town, providing a continuous stream of music to be enjoyed throughout the day.

Val Trim, for the organisers, said 27 bands had been invited to take part and while the emphasis was placed on the appearance of local and community bands from across the Midlands, visitors to the festival could look forward to see some world-class bands perform in the Abbey and to the rear of the Angel Inn.

“This year sees the Scottish Open champions, Tongwynlais Temperance, make the journey from South Wales to appear for the first time, while the world class Flowers Band makes a welcome return.

Newcomers Bilton and Bedworth Bands are making their first appearances at the festival.”

A special treat is in store for visitors this year.

Pershore Midsummer Brass is taking part in Brass the Baton relay, a national initiative instigated by the British Federation of Brass Bands.

It comprises a specially composed piece of music named Going the Distance, intended to celebrate the 2012 Olympiad in London.

The Baptist Church and Chapman Court are other venues involved throughout the day, which starts at 10am.

Tickets cost £12 available in advance from Adrian White on 01386 554004. Under 10s go free.
