GLORIOUS sunshine, trestle tables, bunting? It must be a jubilee year.

Youngsters from Great Witley CE Primary School were in the swing of things for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – albeit a few days earlier than the big day.

The school’s friends group put together a street party and a fair, with games and lots of home-made food for villagers, teachers, and the 135 participating children to enjoy.

A time capsule was also buried and will not be dug up until the 200th anniversary of the school in 2044.

Meanwhile, with the sun shining down the children were able to show off their specially planted jubilee gardens, while the more keen-witted tried their hand at hook-a-duck, guess the sweets in the jar or guess the name of a regal teddy bear.

Karen Banford, headteacher, said the day had been “fantastic”, praising the organisers for a highly successful do.

“We went to see the Olympic Torch in Cleobury Mortimer the day before, so it topped a really exciting week for the children,” she said.

“It was well supported by the friends of the school and members of the local community.”
