HEALTH bosses are calling for people to try to get fit before the Olympic Games.

Leaders at NHS Worcestershire and Worcestershire County Council are urging people to make healthy lifestyle pledges.

The public health team and local NHS health trainers will be at the Lakeview Café in County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester, offering free health MOTs, online health assessments and Change4Life materials as part of healthy lifestyles week which starts today.

The team will also be visiting employees at Worcester BOSCH on Friday.

A mobile computer bus will be on site for people to board and complete a Change-4-Life online health assessment.

Every BOSCH employee who makes a pledge for a healthier lifestyle will be able to collect a free pedometer to encourage them to move more, aiming for 10,000 steps a day.

Dr Frances Howie, assistant director of public health, said: “This is the summer of sport for team GB and people who live in Worcestershire can play their part by deciding to make their lifestyles healthier forever.

“Small steps such as swapping butter for low fat spread, or walking an extra 10 minutes a day, will lead to big changes over time.”

The Lakeview Café will be serving healthy Change4Life inspired meals. Customers will also be able to pick up free Change4Life recipe cards and if they fill out a Make a Pledge card, they will get a free pedometer.

There will even be a smoothie bike in the café. Customers will be able to cycle for their smoothie but it will be up to them to make it as smooth as possible.
