AS millions of revellers gathered across the country to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee last week, one man remembers very well her Coronation year almost 60 years ago.
This school photograph shows Michael Lancaster’s class at St John’s Junior School, Bromyard Road, Worcester, in June 1953, the year of the Queen’s Coronation.
Mr Lancaster, who previously lived in Grove Crescent, Bromyard Road, but now lives in Somerset, is third from the left in the top row. The 69-year-old, who will celebrate his 70th birthday in July, said: “I still keep in touch with two of the ‘boys’. Hopefully they are all still around.” The photo also shows headmaster Mr Langley, who is in the top left of the picture.
Mr Lancaster said when he first arrived at the school the headmaster was Mr Laflin, who retired and was replaced by Mr Langley.
Two other teachers he remembers were Mr P Clifton and P Treasure.
