A DOG discovered in a bad condition by a walker near Evesham United’s new football stadium is looking forward to a brighter future.

Alan Neal, of Bluebell Way, off Cheltenham Road, Evesham, discovered the springer spaniel, which he named Jerry, whimpering in the corner of a field as he walked his own dog on Bank Holiday Monday.

After taking pity on the pooch he took it home and has helped to nurse it back to health.

Mr Neal said: “I found the truly sad sight of a young dog distressed from being under-nourished, thirsty and suffering from mange.

“After eventually gaining the poor thing’s trust I took her home and looked after her until the local dog warden arrived.

“She has a lovely temperament and after just a few hours she was completely relaxed and asleep on my lap.

“The heartless and cruel treatment to this vulnerable animal is, in my opinion, absolutely unforgivable.

“I believe in the long term this could be a blessing in disguise as Jerry may now find a new home with the love and care she deserves.”

The female spaniel is now being cared for by the Dogs Trust at Wickhamford.

Manager Chris Slight said: “She arrived yesterday and we have re-named her Tulisa.

“She needs a little bit of TLC and has a minor few things to sort out but we will get her better.”

l The Dogs Trust is holding an open day from 11am until 4pm on Sunday, June 24.
