A MAN has been arrested in Worcester as part of a nationwide police operation to target known and suspected child sex offenders.

The 21-year-old man was arrested in Worcester this morning on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children and is currently still in police custody.

West Mercia Police made the arrests as part of Operation Tharsley, a joint operation co-ordinated by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre between police forces and officers from the Serious Organised Crime Agency in a bid to crack down on individuals thought to be in possession of child abuse images.

A 57-year-old man was also arrested in Donnington in Telford on Wednesday on suspicion of inciting children to engage in sexual activity and accessing indecent images of children via the internet.

He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Computers and mobile phones were seized from both addresses and the suspects were identified as a result of intelligence received directly from CEOP as well as from investigations conducted locally.
