DETECTIVES have confirmed a man shown in CCTV images who they believed was murdered Worcester man Andrew Heath is not him.

The images, released by police last week, were thought to have been the last pictures of the 52-year-old before he was killed in an arson attack.

But following the publication of the image last Thursday, a woman came forward expressing concerns about the identity of the man.

Speaking about this matter, DCI Paul Williamson said: "We have looked into the concerns expressed by the lady that called us and I can confirm the man captured on the CCTV is not Andrew Heath, and that he has no connection to Mr Heath's death.

"We have apologised to the man featured on the CCTV and to the lady who called in expressing concerns about the image.

"We have met them both in person and I would like to thank them for their understanding about this matter.

"I would also like to thank them for coming forward as quickly as they did because now we know the man pictured isn't Andrew Heath we have a new line of enquiry to follow up related to the time he did actually visit the Spar shop."

Mr Heath was found dead at his flat in Chedworth Close, Warndon, after a suspected arson attack at around 4am on Wednesday, December 14, last year.

A website was launched last week in a bid to catch his killer which features TV footage from the Heath family's appeal in January, links to the BBC Crimewatch reconstruction, a timeline of the investigation and all previously released media appeals.

A reward of £20,000 is being offered information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Mr Heath's death.
