A MAN from the Ronkswood area of Worcester has been ordered to pay compensation to a woman he drunkenly slapped on the back.

Ben Uren, of Ribble Close, slapped Monique Hillier-Sayers while out celebrating his birthday weekend in a city nightclub.

Liam Finch, prosecuting, said 28-year-old Uren was out drinking with friends when the incident took place at about 12.20am on Tuesday, June 5.

Miss Hillier-Sayers was on her way to the toilet when Uren slapped her on the back of the neck, causing pain to her head and the right side of her face.

Mr Finch told Worcester Magistrates Court the pair had never met before and Miss Hillier-Sayers could not see any reason for Uren to strike her.

Paul Stanley, defending, said Uren could not remember a great deal about it.

He said: “He is very sorry for doing what he did and she in no way deserved it.

“He can’t offer an explanation, save the drink and he was very foolish in what he did.”

Uren was also ordered to pay costs of £85.

Is this some sort of joke? Going to court for slapping someone on the neck.... Seems a complete waste of police time!

A man strikes a woman with no provocation, and you don't think it should be a police matter?

Well done to for reporting him, is what I say. To slap a girl for no reason, I think he got away lightly. Let's hope next time he's trying to show off, he will think twice.

Im not saying its right, but to go to court for it seems over the top. Should have just slapped him with a hefty fine and a caution!

I thought he would have to go to court to be fined.
