THE body of a man has been discovered in the remains of a burnt out car, found in a field near Worcester.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was found dead in a car near Ombersley on Thursday.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service attended at about 11am and found a BMW Mini Cooper on fire in a field off Woodhall Lane.

The body of a man was found inside after the blaze was extinguished and his death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Detectives believe they know his identity but it is yet to be formally confirmed and a post-mortem examination carried out yesterday morning did not produce a conclusive cause of death.

Detective Sergeant Pete Sherwood from Wychavon CID said: “It is not yet clear what has taken place and we are still in the early stages of the investigation, so I would like to speak to anyone who saw this Mini in Woodhall Lane, particularly in the moments before the fire started.

“Did you see it drive off or leave the road? Did you see any other kind of activity in the field? If you did, please get in touch."
