Olympic Torch heading to Evesham
IT is Evesham’s turn to host the Olympic Torch tomorrow.
Crowds of people are once again expected to flock to see the torch relay make its way through the town.
The fun starts in the town’s Market Place, with entertainment from 10am, ahead of the torch’s arrival at about 11.20am.
It will enter the town at Greenhill, going past Evesham station, all the way along the High Street, Abbey Road, over Abbey Bridge and along Cheltenham Road.
It will then head out onto the A46 to Wickhamford for about noon, before it reaches Broadway at about 12.10pm.
Events planned for the day include appearances by Prunella the Plum and Aspara’Gus’ at Greenhill; a Festival of Brass in the High Street; a street market, live music and the W Factor winners in Market Square; as well as face-painters and other entertainment.
An historical buildings trail will be running from the town hall, and the Almonry Museum has a sports exhibition in the afternoon.
Tracy Grubb, community development officer for Wychavon, said: “There will be lots going on over the whole day and we look forward to seeing everyone having fun and enjoying the entertainment.”
Parking is not available on the relay route and drivers are warned to expect heavy traffic in the area.
