Cycle ride from city to Florence for charity
11:40am Sunday 8th July 2012 in News
CHALLENGE: Cyclist Robert Owen with his mum Pat Owen and girlfriend Anna Seabridge.
A man is hoping to raise £1,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice with a 1,250-mile cycle ride from Worcester to Florence, Italy, in a fortnight.
Robert Owen, aged 33, set off from Acorns in Bath Road, Worcester, on May 19 and reached Florence on June 4.
Mr Owen, an electrician with a solar panel firm, said: “My mum used to work in special schools, and I understand the need for us all to support Acorns’ work. It is not a huge charity, but it helps local people.”
After completing the challenge, Mr Owen, of Worcester, said: “I was lucky with the conditions, though the first few days weren’t great.”
His girlfriend Anna Seabridge, to whom he proposed in Lucca, near Pisa, when she went out to visit him, said: “We are all so proud of him.”
