UPDATE 3.45pm Monday: Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service has revealed that the horse was attached to a 'trap'.

A spokesman said that nothing was found after further searches (other than a dead sheep) and no missing person reports have been filed.

A DEAD horse has been pulled from the swollen waters of the river Severn.

The animal was spotted by a member of the public who reported it to Hereford and Worcester Fire Service.

At around 11.30am this morning rescue crews in two boats dragged the body of the animal to the shore outside Worcester Canoe Club.

It was then pulled out of the water and covered at 11.45am.

At this time it is not known how the horse ended up in the river or where it came from.
