SIR – Dr David Tibbutt recently tried to make a point in the Worcester News (May 7) regarding having pride in the city.

But how can a citizen of the city and county have a pride when the council of both the city and the county constantly let us down?

The Worcester News on June 30 has an example with one of its stories. Not one person has been prosecuted in the past three years for allowing their dog to foul an area and then walk away without clearing the mess away.

Putting up new red bins is not going to help eliminate this problem, particularly as not so long ago the council removed some red dog refuse bins.

Here’s another example.

When the ‘Dalek’ wheelie bins were introduced there was a scripted warning that errant users who left a bin or bins on the pavement would be prosecuted.

From my findings under the Freedom of Information Act not one abuser has been censured.

Why? Because the county council who are responsible for the footway refused to prosecute as it was not worth the cost.

And then there’s planning.

Buildings of outrageous design and in no way pleasing to the eye are planted indiscriminately around the city.

Then there are the roads which do not justify the cost, placed where someone thought it would be a good idea.

And what about parking your car? Have you noticed how uneven this particular playing field is?

No, it is not a city to be easily proud of yet there are regular comments from the city council that Worcester will surpass Chester one day.

I doubt it.
