A DOTING husband has given his wife the ultimate anniversary by secretly arranging a renewal of their weddings vows in the style of her favourite television show.

Mike Skilbeck and his wife, Kellie, renewed their vows on June 29 – their 10th wedding anniversary – with a ceremony at St Nicholas Church in Warndon Villages, surrounded by family and friends.

Mr Skilbeck, 31, from Warndon Villages, secretly organised the ceremony after being inspired by the TV show Don’t Tell The Bride, where grooms-to-be are given a budget to organise a dream wedding without any input from their fiancee.

He said: “When we got married we didn’t really have a traditional wedding, no white dress for my wife, no church and no photographer.

“My wife loved the show, so I decided to do a surprise renewal of vows adopting the theme.”

Mr Skilbeck booked the church, where the couple’s four children were christened, a photographer and the entertainment and chose the dress, colour themes and bridesmaid dresses.

He said he had a lot of help from his best man Kevin Styles and his wife, Sharon, and stored everything for the day in their home.

He said: “I had to become very secretive with my phone and eBay accounts.

“I actually made two of the bridesmaid dresses with help from Sharon to save money and even made my own wishing well, table decorations, and favours. Friends helped out with the cake, transport, and nails and hair.”

He finally told Mrs Skilbeck what he was planning about a month before the event but did not let on about any of the details, like the venue or colour scheme.

But two weeks before the ceremony, Mrs Skilbeck was allowed to see her dress and try it on.

Following the ceremony, Mr Skilbeck said: “We had a fantastic day.

“But it was very stressful and unless they do a Don’t Tell The Groom, it won’t happen again.”

Mrs Skilbeck, 32, said: “For me it’s been fab, I’ve not known a thing. He’s been in a mood all week but the boy done good.”
