A BASS player will be joined by his fellow bandmates to celebrate the second birthday of a Worcester-based children’s charity set up by his mum.

William Hughes and the other three members of Jasper In The Company Of Others will be performing at New Hope centre in Wells Road, Ronkswood, tomorrow.

Mayor of Worcester Roger Berry will also be attending the celebrations, which take place between 2pm and 5pm, and local artist Siân Davis will be unveiling a mural she has painted as a surprise for the children who travel from as far afield as Warwick, Stratford and Birmingham to use the charity’s services.

The children’s respite centre was set up by Mr Hughes’ mum, Jean Wilson, in 2010 to give youngsters with disabilities and complex healthcare needs a new lease of life. Mrs Wilson, who was motivated to found New Hope after struggling to find support for her autistic daughter and Mr Hughes’ little sister, Emily, said everyone was really excited about the party and celebrating the continued success of a service that relies on fund-raising to survive.

“It’s been a wonderful journey over the past two years, watching New Hope go from strength to strength,” said Mrs Wilson, who was presented to the Queen during the royal visit to Worcester.

“And there are so many people who have a hand in making it what it is today, which we appreciate so much.

“A real team effort, I would say, although the stars are the children we support.

“It is a privilege to work with them, they bring such joy to all who know them.

“I am particularly touched that William and the band have offered to play at our party, and am very excited about seeing Siân’s masterpiece, which will look fantastic in our main hall.”

As well as a barbecue (weather dependent) and party games, there will be a fund-raising lucky dip, name the teddy and hook the duck, face painting, henna and nail art.
