FOLLOWING widespread flooding, the National Flood Forum is offering free advice on how to cope and start the recovery process.

The charity is dedicated to supporting and representing flood-risk communities.

It gives its backing to more than 200 local flood action groups in the UK.

These groups give communities greater power to speak to the necessary authorities and get action to prevent future floods.

Forum spokesman Paul Cobbing said: “Our people have been flooded themselves, so they know what residents are going through and what lies ahead.

"Whatever the problem, with insurance, loss adjusters or cowboy tradesmen, we’ve probably been there, or know someone who has.

“Flooding throughout the world is becoming more extreme as a result of changing weather, growing populations and increasing urbanisation.

“Here in UK we’ve had more severe floods in the last 10 years than in the generation before. Flooding can hit anywhere now, not just near rivers.”
