A WOMAN was knocked to the ground during an assault outside a Worcester takeaway.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was with friends outside Shakeeys in Angel Street between 3.30am and 4.10am on Sunday, July 8, when a man walked up to her and after engaging her in conversation, struck her in the face, knocking her over.

He then ran down Angel Street on to the market area in Angel Place and then into Broad Street.

The woman suffered a cut lip and banged her head on the floor, causing a graze and concussion. She was treated at the scene by paramedics but did not go to hospital.

Her attacker, who spoke with a local accent, was white, slim, about 5ft 7 inches in height, with short, dark cropped hair and clean shaven with a fair complexion. He was wearing a light coloured, plain short-sleeved T-shirt and blue jeans.

PC Stuart King, who is investigating, said: "This was a nasty and unprovoked attack which has left the woman physically shaken. She has had to take time off work and been unable to drive. Someone will have seen who did this, noticed him running from the scene or have an idea who carried out this assault. I would urge them to come forward and talk to us."

Witnesses are asked to contact police by calling the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 118-S-080712 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
