MEAL times have become a gateway to a bygone era for residents at a Worcestershire care home.

As part of the ongoing transformation of Welland House in Welland, near Malvern, the building’s dining room has been turned into a 1950s style Hollywood restaurant.

Manager Jane Shelley took over at the home earlier this year and set about making some changes.

Rooms have been given a new look, with a working salon where residents can get their hair styled and a lounge now representing a “genteel living” setting, it even includes a piano.

A paddock at the back of the home has also been let out for grazing horses. Mrs Shelley said: “We’re looking at the age of our residents, what they like and what they remember, and just trying to bring the outside world into them,” she said.

The restaurant is being officially opened by the Bishop of Worcester The Rt Rev Dr John Inge, during a fete on Sunday, from 3pm to 6pm.
