A WORCESTER teenager who bounced back from a life-threatening brain tumour has raised £2,000 for the charity which helped save his life.

Sam Morris worked with the Winning Post pub in Worcester to organise a number of events to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

When the 17-year-old was diagnosed with the cancerous tumour called a germinoma in November 2010 he spent five weeks at the Teenage Cancer Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham undergoing radiotherapy.

He says they helped save his life and hopes the money he has helped raise shows how grateful he is for their help.

“I wanted to say thank you to them for helping me get through everything I went through and saving my life when I had the brain tumour,” said Mr Morris, of Belmont Street, off Rainbow Hill, Worcester.

“The unit helped me get through my GCSEs and took me out on trips.

“I am really looking forward to giving them the cheque and some of my friends from the unit will be coming down on the night.

“The Winning Post really supported me with the events and helped raise the money for the trust.”

Mr Morris will be presenting the cheque alongside Anne and Jim McKeever from the Winning Post to Laura Bainbridge, the regional fund-raiser for the trust, at the pub on Wednesday, August 15.

The couple decided to get involved in the fund raising after meeting Mr Morris and hearing his story.

“We choose a different local charity every six months,” said Mr McKeever. “After meeting Sam we decided to support his charity.

“We raised the money with a race night, a cabaret night hosted by Mike Prince and with a golf day.

“Everyone at the pub helped out and we are looking forward to raising money for another local charity.”

Now Mr Morris, who was given a DJ masterclass by international DJ Gareth Wynn earlier this year, will be performing a set at the Upton Music Festival on August Bank Holiday Monday.

He said: “The trust helped me do my thing and get on with the DJing.

“I am looking forward to getting on stage later this month, after the master class I am quite good and am feeling confident.”
