RESIDENTS of Upton-upon-Severn gathered outside the town’s historic Pepperpot to give the Olympics a ringing endorsement with glockenspiels.

People of all ages, led by members of Upton Youth Band, joined together for an ‘All the Bells’ event signalling the start of the London Games.

The event in Upton was one of hundreds that took place up and down the country, with people ringing bells to celebrate the start of the showpiece sporting event.

Helen Lane, director of Upton Youth Band, said: “There were people who brought cow bells, hand bells, a baby boy had his own little set of bells and even a gong was brought along.”
