A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to harass or alarm others following reports of a man being seen with a gun last week

As we reported on Friday, armed police stormed a flat in Elgar Avenue, Malvern, on Friday after the man was seen with a gun in Gloucester Road.

The 18-year-old man was detained on Wells Road at around 5pm yesterday in connection with the incident.

He remains in custody this morning at Worcester police station.

Superintendent Steve Cullen, policing commander for the area, said: “Thankfully, reports of this nature are rare in south Worcestershire, but when we do receive them, we take them extremely seriously and do all we can to trace those thought to be involved.

“I would like to reassure local people that at this stage, it does appear to be an isolated incident between parties known to each other. I would also like to thank the community for their help and cooperation with our investigation so far.”

As previously reported, eyewitnesses living in Elgar Avenue saw police officers armed with submachine guns and wearing ballistic helmets and bulletproof vests surround an address in their road.

About a dozen police vehicles and about 24 armed officers, backed by police dog units, closed off the street at about 1pm on Friday.
