A jury in the case of an accident and emergency doctor accused of two counts of fraud has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.
Lucy Dawson was alleged to be on fully paid leave from her job at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, when working 10 shifts at hospitals in Worcester and Gloucester, earning £7,840.
Her trial heard she had been paid almost £30,000 in sick pay during her six-month absence during late 2009 and early 2010.
But while the 45-year-old defendant, of Monmouth, admitted working the locum shifts and getting paid for them, she denied the charges against her.
She insisted she had not acted dishonestly and was suffering from stress and depression at the time.
A jury was initially asked to reach a unanimous verdict by Judge David Wynn Morgan but he later gave them a new direction saying he would accept at least a 10-2 majority verdict.
Jurors failed to agree, resulting in a retrial.
Details of when the new case will proceed are expected to be given at Newport Crown Court on Friday.
