A TALENTED ballet dancer has said how honoured he was to be chosen to perform at the Olympic Games.

Thomas Edwards, aged 18, of Aconbury Close, Worcester, has already performed twice at the Excel arena at the opening of the women’s fencing event on July 29 and at the final on Saturday.

He has also danced at the O2 Arena at the opening of the trampoline event on the volt platform.

But the icing on the cake for him was when he was asked to dance a solo between rhythmic gymnastics at Wembley Arena.

The former Nunnery Wood High School pupil, who is in his second year of training at London’s Central School of Ballet, was asked by one of his teachers to dance during the games.

“It’s a great honour to be asked,” he said. “I’m the only second year student to be asked. It’s absolutely amazing to be part of it.

“In the O2 Arena I was really nervous. When do you get a chance to perform in front of all those people? It was incredible, a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

“The Olympics probably will never come back to London in our lifetime. Just to be able to be a part of London 2012 in any way was great – but to be performing on the stage where the athletes have been makes it feel really special.”

Thomas will be performing his solo on the gymnastic floor in the intervals until Sunday.
