A TRACTOR made for two led to a lifetime of love for a couple from Lower Broadheath.

Eddie and Jo Leighton celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on August 9 with a family party.

The couple met when they were both aged 19 and lived on neighbouring farms.

For their first date, the pair took a stroll along the local brook and when courting Jo would sit alongside Eddie on his David Brown tractor which had a double seat.

Mr and Mrs Leighton married in 1952 at Lower Broadheath Church and celebrated the occasion with a reception in the village hall.

Mr Leighton has lived and farmed in Lower Broadheath since 1938 and the pair have remained in the village where they keep very active.

Mr Leighton even continues to enjoy driving his tractor around occasionally.

Revealing the secret to a long and happy marriage, he said the key was “to disagree but to always make up”.

The couple have three children Sue, Bryan and Julie and three grandchildren Laura, 29, Sally, 27, and Hannah, 11.

Their family, along with old farming friends, helped to celebrate their 60 years of marriage with a surprise garden party.
