THE creative works of sculpture students will be on display in an open studio between Malvern and Worcester.

Caro Sweet is opening her Bransford -based studio during Herefordshire Art (h.Art) Week, from Saturday, September 8, to Sunday, September 16, between 10.30am and 5pm, to showcase the output of students who attend her weekly classes.

The display features pieces created with traditional methods and materials including plaster, clay and cement fondue.

“The diversity in subject matter and style is wonderful to see,” she said. “People often start with clay then explore other mediums as they get inspired by what others are doing.

“I keep the groups small so that everyone can work at their own pace on a subject that really fires their imagination. I am delighted my students have agreed to display their work. Many of them started class without previous sculpting experience.

“They have really excelled themselves in their journeys from novices to proficient artists – being really inventive with mixed media, colour and textures, in both figurative and abstract designs of their own choosing.

“It’s very exciting and shows just how far you can come with a little know-how and a creative imagination.”

Works on show include jewel-coloured Scarab beetles in polymer and natural pigments by Katie Anderson, and a poignant composition titled Broken Flag by Owen Morgan, reflecting on the 9/11 disaster.

Entry is free, and refreshments are available with proceeds going to St Michael’s Hospice. For more information call Caro on 07970 505 733 or go to carosweet.com.
