Men charged with Worcester burglaries

TWO men have been charged with a series of burglaries and car crimes in Worcester.

Kevin Bird and Joseph Smith have both charged with two burglaries where car keys were stolen and vehicles taken from the driveway.

Bird was also charged with burgling the Grosvenor Arms pub.

On Sunday, August 26, a Honda Civic was stolen during a burglary at a property in Farmbrook Close in St John's.

Four days later, a grey BMW M3, an Apple laptop and a mobile phone were stolen during a burglary in Flag Meadow Walk in Arboretum.

Last Thursday (30) evening, officers spotted the BMW travelling from Kidderminster on the A449 towards Worcester.

The car was pursued into Droitwich until it crashed at 5.50pm in Shepherd's Way on the Westlands estate and two men inside made off from the vehicle. 

Bird was arrested later that night in Droitwich and Smith was arrested on Friday (31) morning in Worcester.

Smith, aged 24, of Field Road, off Bilford Road, Worcester, was charged with two counts of burgling a dwelling, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and two counts of driving while disqualified.

Bird, aged 21, of Spenser Road, Dines Green, Worcester, was charged with aggravated vehicle taking, and three counts of burglary, which included a charge of burgling the Grosvenor Arms in Henwick Road on August 20 and stealing a TV and some cash.

He is also accused of making off from police officers who were attempting to arrest him on August 24 and he was charged with escaping from lawful custody.

Smith and Bird were both charged on Friday and appeared at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning where they were both remanded into custody to appear at Worcester Crown Court at a later date.
