THE brother of a man who served in the Army during the Suez Crisis is hoping to track down two people pictured in this photograph with him reading a copy of the Worcester News .

Tim O’Grady, aged 74, of Calgary Drive, Lower Wick, Worcester, came across the picture when looking through a box of old photographs his mother had collected.

It shows his brother Bernard, pictured on the right, with two men who were serving with the Worcestershire regiment at Port Said, Egypt, in 1953.

The 18-year-old had written to his mother Margaret, known as Maggie, in Fernhill Heath ‘Notice the paper’ referring to the copy of the Worcester News, then known as the News and Times, which Maggie had sent out to him. His message continued: “The two chaps came from Worcester. One from Martley, one from Ronkswood.”

Mr O’Grady said: “My mother regularly sent him out a newspaper and he always wrote to her. I knew we had this picture in the house somewhere and I found it on Tuesday.

“I would just like the chance to say hello to the two men and shake their hands or hear from their families.”

His brother served with the Worcestershire Regiment for three years as a regular before returning home to Fernhill Heath at the age of 21.

He worked as a plumber before emigrating to Australia 30 years ago with his wife Fran and daughters Geraldine and Allison as part of the £10 passage scheme. Bernard died five years ago at the age of 78.
