A POSTAL inquiry launched after mail was found dumped in a Worcester alleyway has found the courier was to blame.

The individual was contracted by private mail firm DX Mail to deliver business mail in the city.

Last week, we reported how Duckworth Worcestershire Trust volunteer Jackie Craddock had found a bag full of their mail dumped in a hedge in an alleyway off Newtown Road .

Some of the packets were unopened, but many others were unsealed and missing their contents.

Mrs Craddock contacted the newspaper, which alerted DX Mail, who in turn launched an investigation. That probe, by the DX internal security team, has concluded the courier was “negligent”.

Company spokesman Beccy Wright said: “We undertook an immediate investigation and have now determined the 11 recovered [unopened] items were either lost en route or purposefully disposed of by the courier.

“In either case, the investigation has concluded that the courier was negligent in the performance of their duties, and with immediate effect no longer undertakes work for DX.

“The investigation has not uncovered any other incidents but we will continue to be vigilant.”

She said all recovered items had been delivered and apologised for inconvenience caused.
