A TEENAGER punched a policeman and kneed a doorman in the face when his brother was arrested, forcing an officer to use his baton to bring him down.

Trouble flared between brothers John Davies and Thomas Davies and police at the Cross, Worcester, when a friend was arrested.

John Davies, aged 22, of Little Birch, Hereford admitted being drunk and disorderly in public and Tom Davies, 19, of the same address admitted being drunk and disorderly, assault by beating and assault on a constable in the execution of his duties.

The court heard how James Taylor, a friend of the brothers, was given words of advice by police because of his inappropriate behaviour before the incident at about 12.25am on August 21.

Mark Johnson, prosecuting, said the brothers initially co-operated with the police to help take their friend away but Taylor was later arrested which prompted the elder brother, John Davies, to begin ‘remonstrating’ about the way his friend had been treated.

John Davies was then arrested for being drunk and disorderly and, at one stage, taken to the floor. Mark Johnson, prosecuting, said: “Tom Davies then became extremely agitated and doorstaff from McDonald’s came to assist with the detention of Tom Davies.”

During the struggle, Tom Davies kneed doorman Christopher Andrews to the face. PC Van Rooyen was also punched, suffering swelling under his right eye and a small cut to the back of his left ear.

Mr Johnson said: “CS spray had to be deployed against Tom Davies. The officer pulled out his baton and struck him to the rear of the legs.”

Mark Lister, defending both brothers, said Tom Davies had already apologised to the police.

John Davies was fined £40 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge and £85 costs. Tom Davies was fined £40 for being drunk and disorderly, £60 for the assault on the member of the doorstaff and £80 for the assault on the police officer. He was also ordered to pay £50 in compensation, £85 costs and a surcharge of £15.
