Pedestrian found with "extensive" injuries on A38 near Droitwich

A MAN is in a critical condition after suffering extensive injuries after being hit by a lorry.

West Mercia Police were called to the A38 in Copcut near Droitwich at 11.40pm on Thursday after a pedestrian was seen on the carriageway.

On arrival, officers found the injured man who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) was also called to the scene shortly before 11.50pm.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and the trust’s MERIT (Medical Emergency Response Incident Team) rapid response vehicle, carrying a critical care paramedic and trauma doctor, were sent to the scene.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene, before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he is in a critical condition.

A WMAS spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found a lorry and a pedestrian that had been in collision.

“The pedestrian, a man, was treated at the scene for serious multiple injuries.

“Due to the nature of the man’s injuries the doctor gave the casualty an anaesthetic at the scene before being conveyed to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further assessment and specialist treatment.

“The doctor and critical care paramedic travelled on board the ambulance and continued to provide emergency medical treatment to the casualty while on route to hospital, where medics had been pre-alerted to the arrival of the man and of his injuries.”

His next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed until 5.05am yesterday (Fri) to allow for a full examination of the scene.
