Man airlifted to hospital after arm is trapped

A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after his arm became trapped in a piece of machinery in Herefordshire earlier today.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to a property in Bosbury in Ledbury at around 11.50am.

An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, a pre hospital trauma doctor from the Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS) charity, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham and a second from Cosford with a MERIT trauma doctor on board attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When the land ambulance, responder paramedic and first helicopter arrived they found a man on top of a large piece of farming machinery, approximately eight feet up. His arm had become trapped in the moving parts of the machinery.

“The man sustained a significant injury to his arm. Crews administered pain relief to stabilise his condition whilst his arm was assessed.

"Due to the nature of the incident, the fire service was requested and a second air ambulance was also responded with a second doctor.

“Crews continued treating the man whilst working closely with the fire service, who used cutting equipment, to carefully release the man and bring him down from the machinery safely.

"Once released, crews and the doctors dressed his arm injury before he was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency treatment."
