Tax justice highlighted by visit of special bus

The Poverty Tax bus into Worcester with the city’s Mayor, Councillor Roger Berry and Mayoress Jill Berry; Green Party councillor Neil Laurenson; the Rt Rev David Walker, Bishop of Dudley; Cyril Bezant, the Rev Christopher Stuart and Suzanne Matale.
THE Tax Justice Bus rolled into Worcester in a bid to highlight how tax evasion is hurting the poor.
Dignitaries such as the Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Roger Berry , and the Bishop of Dudley, the Rt Rev David Walker, showed their support at St John-in-Bedwardine Church.
The joint campaign by Christian Aid and Church Action on Poverty want people to Tick For Tax Justice.
They are urged to sign a petition that calls on the Prime Minister to push for measures that would require companies to report on the profits they make and taxes they pay in every country in which they operate and tax havens to share information about the money flowing through them with other countries.
The Bishop of Dudley, David Walker, said: “The way in which many large companies are able to avoid paying a fair rate of tax on the money they earn from working in poorer countries is one of the greatest impediments to the future development of those nations.”
