A CUSTOMER service assistant who works in the travel centre at Worcester Foregate Street railway station is in line for a national award.

Simone Carter, aged 41, has been nominated for the outstanding customer service award in this year’s Rail Staff Awards.

The Rail Staff Awards started in 2007 with the aim of recognising the good work of those who work in the rail industry. Since then, the awards have grown to 16 categories, receiving more than 1,000 nominations a year and handing out £100,000 in prizes.

Ms Carter, of Kidderminster, has been nominated for the award by 10 members of the public. Nominee Jonathan Wood said: “I have seen her deal with many complicated inquiries with ease. “She always has a cheery smile on her face and everyone that comes into contact with her is made to feel special. I believe that she is a true ambassador for the rail industry.” The travel centre staff as a whole have also been nominated for the rail team of the year award.

One of the nominees, Mike Dean, said: “The travel centre staff are always polite, efficient and helpful, even when they are busy with a queue out the door. When someone gets annoyed with trains or price they hold their thoughts and still maintain a calm demeanour. Even on hot sticky days there is still a smile as they always seem to help and give good advice and service.”

Visit railstaffawards. com/categories.php. The awards will be presented at the ICC, Birmingham, on Saturday, October 20.

It is a pleasure to go into Foregate St station and be met by Simone who alwys goes out of her way to be helpful. She somehow even seems to make it a pleasure for me to pay the ever increasing fare! I do hope she wins the award which is well deserved.
