A KEEN photographer will have this dramatic picture featured in a BBC Countryfile calendar.

Ian Thompson, vice-chairman of Malvern’s Beacon Camera Club, took this picture, Storm Force, which will be featured in the 2013 calendar.

His picture was selected as one of the 12 for the calendar from tens of thousands of entries.

The calendar theme is A Walk on the Wild Side, which fitted in with Mr Thompson’s striking image taken when he and fellow club members travelled to photograph an extremely stormy day in Porthcawl.

Mr Thompson, aged 62, of Hanley Swan, who is an associate of the Royal Photographic Society, said: “I owe this to the club. The help, support and encouragement from everyone there has lifted my picture-taking to a level I would not have imagined three or four years ago.

“It’s quite something to be selected as one of 12 out of some 50,000 entries.” Now viewers are being asked to vote for which of the pictures is the best.

The photos are posted on the Countryfile website. To vote for Mr Thompson, call 0901 1987611.

The calendar will raise money for Children In Need. Last year it raised £1.2 million.

The Beacon Camera Club meets on Thursdays at 7.30pm in the Lyttelton Rooms, Church Street, Malvern. For details, visit beaconcameraclub.co.uk.
