A WORCESTER couple have settled back into their home more than four months after a car driven by their neighbours smashed into their house.

Vickram Selvakumar and his wife Anuja, who is currently 33 weeks pregnant, were forced to move in with family following the accident in March, which left a hole in the wall of their kitchen in Mabbs Close, Warndon Villages.

They are now back home and said they are pleased to be back in time for the birth of their daughter.

“It has been very stressful,” said Mr Selvakumar. “The pregnancy period should be very enjoyable but this has put a different slant on it. It has been very hectic.”

The smash happened after the driver of a Citreon estate car, Dr Naila Tabassum, made a mistake causing the car to career across the entrance to the close and up the drive towards Mr and Mrs Selvakumar’s house. The car hit the kitchen wall losing a wheel before bouncing further up the drive.

The couple initially lied to police, claiming Dr Tabassum’s husband Dr Tahir Ahmed had been the driver, although they later admitted it had been her. Mr Selvakumar said: “We were disappointed with their behaviour at the beginning.

“We know accidents do happen but the fact they weren’t forthcoming at the time of the incident left a bitter taste in our mouths.”

Dr Tabassum and her husband both said they thanked God no one had been injured.

“At the time we were in shock,” said Dr Tabassum. “We are really sorry about their home. We didn’t want to damage it, it was an accident. The situation was very stressful and my husband took over from me.

“We are happy the house has been repaired and wish them a happy life.”

A West Mercia police spokesperson said: “No one was officially cautioned at the scene as there was nothing to indicate anything was untoward. During the investigation it became apparent there was a question as to the actual driver.

“When interviewed under caution, the female driver fully admitted the offence and was duly reported for it.”

Dr Tabassum has since completed a National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme course costing £200.
