THE family of a Stourport man killed in a motorbike crash say his “stunning” daughter, born since his death, has helped them “keep going”.

An inquest into the death of Thomas Edwards, aged 23, of Lorne Street, concluded today with a verdict of accidental death following the incident at about 5.20pm on Friday, May 11 on the A451 between Dunley and Great Witley.

Mr Edwards collided with an oncoming Land Rover Discovery after losing control and coming off his 600cc Yamaha R6, which he was not licensed to drive. He suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.

His daughter Summer was born three months later on August 6.
Speaking after the inquest, Mr Edwards’s father, Matthew Edwards, said: “Nothing can be done to bring my son back. What has kept us going is his four-year-old son Charlie and we have met Summer and she is gorgeous, she is stunning.

“The verdict was as I presumed and it brings us some form of closure.”
Worcestershire Coroner’s Court, in Stourport, heard Mr Edwards lost control of the motorbike on a bend, finding himself on the wrong side of the road.
PC Lois Ellis estimated he had been travelling about 68mph on the 60mph road.

Roderick Hallett, driving the Land Rover, noticed Mr Edwards on his side of the road and swerved to the road’s centre hoping Mr Edwards would sweep around the outside of him. Mr Edwards came off the bike and hit the Land Rover.

The court heard a nail in the motorbike’s front tyre was slowly causing a puncture, making handling difficult.

Worcestershire Coroner Geraint Williams added: “Mr Hallett can in no way be criticised.”

Step-mother, Lisa Edwards, said: “I am so grateful Mr Hallett was there to hold Thomas’s hand and make sure he was not alone.”

Summing up, Mr Williams said: “This was a tragic accident. The accident caused the injuries and the injuries caused his death.”
