A HOUSING blueprint which earmarks 23,000 new properties and acres of employment land across south Worcestershire has been picked apart by Warndon Parish Council in Worcester.

Its members said access plans for a new football stadium for Worcester City Football Club were not good enough – and have urged councillors to start listening.

They also said the green fields either side of the industrial units at Warndon Woods, which are earmarked for employment land, should only go ahead with better roads access.

Members of Worcester City Council , including chief executive Duncan Sharkey, gave a presentation to them about the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP).

Councillor Ray Morris said: “I’m concerned what will happen with the access (to Warndon Woods).

“People will find ways to solve it that aren’t that good. “These are the dangers of allocating land where there’s no access.

“These things tend to get overlooked. Is it good for the residents and the traffic on the road?”

Coun Morris also raised concerns over parking on the site and predicted that people using the land would start parking in the estate.

He said: “Unless this whole thing gets looked at it’s only going to get worse.”

Coun Ted Holloway said: “I think the point is that we raised concerns about access with the football club which was just swept aside.”

As previously reported in your Worcester News , Coun Holloway previously raised concerns over lack of access to the new football stadium for Worcester City Football Club off Nunnery Way, claiming the plans needed to go “back to the drawing board”.

As we reported, Coun Holloway said his three concerns over the site were the entrance site, the lack of parking and the location of the newly proposed pedestrian crossing.

A statement on behalf of Worcester City Council said: “The site has been proposed for allocation because of its potential to attract high quality employment. Queries have been raised about access.

“No firm decisions have been taken at this stage and councillors will be considering all the evidence and representations about the site, before they reach their decisions on the next stage of plan making.”
