THE family of a man who died when his car crashed into a wall at a health clinic have paid tribute to a man “who had a great zest for life.”

William John Glackin, known as John, turned 70 last month and enjoyed spending time with his family, travelling and walking.

Originally from Northern Ireland he moved to Worces-ter in 1962 and became a highly respected manager in the construction industry.

He was happily married and had recently celebrated his golden wedding.

As your Worcester News reported yesterday, he was killed when his black Peugeot 407 hit a brick wall in the car park of the Moor Street Clinic, Worcester, at about 3pm.

A family spokesman said: “John had a great zest for life and a keen interest in current affairs and sport.

“John was on the way to Moor Street clinic for a chiropodist appointment. “He left home fit and well that afternoon but as he pulled into the car park unfortunately he suffered a ruptured aortic aneurysm. “This is a rupture to a large blood vessel in the abdomen which caused John to lose consciousness. “The loss of consciousness and subsequent impact of hitting the wall accelerated the problem, resulting in sudden death. “This came as a complete shock to family and friends as this was totally unexpected.”

He leaves behind four children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. One passer-by smashed a window in an attempt to drag him out but it was in vain.

Several people who tried to help, including some staff, needed first aid after smoke started to pour from the wheels of the car.

The spokesman added: “The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who tried to assist John including the emergency services. “ There will be a private funeral held on Friday, September 28, at St George’s Roman Catholic Church Sansome Walk, Worcester. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 03003 333000 quoting reference 437S 170912.
