Road closed over safety fears
PART of one of Worcester’s busiest traffic islands has been closed after questions were raised over its safety.
The Whittington roundabout, which has recently undergone a £1.3million revamp, has come under fire after drivers claimed it left them gambling with their life.
Worcestershire County Council closed the slip road leading onto the A4440 earlier today after monitoring by its officers revealed safety issues.
Changes to road including better signage and a change to the layout will be completed over the weekend and the road will be re-opened on Monday.
Earlier this month your Worcester News spoke to city resident Lisa Ventura, whose car was hit from behind whilst she was stopped at the newly installed
junction while waiting to merge with traffic.
She said the new layout is a disaster waiting to happen and warned someone would soon be killed.

Also although working nowhere near it they closed one of the two lanes from the motorway so traffic was queued on the exit sliproad at J7 north.
Once again, shocking levels of incompetence.

I was beginning to worry that I was turning into a bore
Over the issue of Whittington Roundabout and its safety
There have been too many near misses up there lately
I was hit from behind by a driver who couldn’t stop
He said he couldn’t figure out the new layout, it was a fair cop
I went back to the roundabout and what did I see
Another two near misses, glory be!
At a council meeting tempers flared
When the issue was debated , were the councillors scared?
Of what might happen if something wasn’t done?
About an array of flowers being displayed if a life was gone?
Today I heard that they have seen sense
The slip road is closed while works commence
To improve it up there by early next week
To say there was no problem was quite frankly a cheek!
