Celebrating golden day
7:20pm Saturday 22nd September 2012 in News By Tarik Al Rasheed
GOLDEN COUPLE: David and Anthea Head were childhood sweethearts.
David and Anthea Head celebrated their golden anniversary with family and friends at Worcestershire Golf Club in Malvern Wells.
The former childhood sweethearts, who live in Cowleigh Road, Malvern, grew up locally and went to school in Worcester, Mrs Head at St Mary’s Convent and Mr Head at the King’s School.
Mrs Head trained as a telephonist but devoted most of her married life to raising their three children, Karen, Jacqueline and Ronan, while Mr Head spent his career as a sales manager with the Welcome Foundation.
Since retiring he has become well-known for playing Father Christmas in Malvern’s official celebrations and as a volunteer in the town’s Oxfam shop and tourist information centre.
Both Mr and Mrs Head are long-time members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and have recently completed a five year assignment as visitor missionaries at the world’s first ever Mormon chapel, at Pendock.
In the visitors’ book at their anniversary celebration friends described them as “a truly devoted couple who had made the raising of their family their main priority”.
