MORE heavy rain and gusty winds will hit Worcestershire over the next few days, according to forecasters.

Having weathered yesterday’s deluge there are now concerns more rain to the north of the county could push up river levels today and tomorrow.

David Throup, the Environment Agency ’s area manager for Worcestershire and Herefordshire, predicted “miserable weather” today, although Worcestershire “won’t get the brunt as it did on Monday.”

More rainfall may then push up river levels further, although at Tenbury Wells on the river Teme the expected peak at about midnight last night was not expected to be as bad as the level seen earlier on in the year, in June.

“The river Severn probably won’t peak until about Wednesday,” said Mr Throup.

“There’s potential for more rain on Tuesday, as it looks like this low pressure system is working its way back down the country which is something which hadn’t initially been predicted.

“There’s a good chance Shropshire and Wales will get another inch of rainfall, and that’s right in the catchment areas for our rivers in Worcestershire so we’ll have to keep a close eye on the levels.”

Met Office forecasts indicate more rain and strong gusts of wind today, while tomorrow will see temperatures climb higher – although conditions will remain unsettled, with further rainfall possible.

Towards the end of the week, into Thursday and Friday the outlook looks more settled with temperatures at about 14C (57F), and winds dropping significantly along with the risk of anymore heavy rainfall.

Saturday will remain dry and cloudy but more rain is then forecast on Sunday and into the start of next week, with highs of 13C (55F).
