Murderer on the loose

Murderer on the loose Murderer on the loose

A CONVICTED murderer is on the loose from prison and could be in Worcester.

Police are appealing for help in locating a prisoner who failed to return to a north Worcestershire prison after a day release.

David William Gilbert failed to return to HMP Hewell near Redditch on Saturday, 22 September.

Gilbert, aged 56, originates from Penzance, Cornwall. He was jailed for life after being convicted of the murder of his partner in 1997, but was nearing the end of his sentence and was being considered for parole.

He is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of proportionate build, with balding brown hair, blue eyes, and a Cornish accent. He was wearing an Umbro t-shirt, a blue Next jacket, blue Henri Lloyd jeans, and black Timberland boots,

Gilbert possibly went into Redditch, Worcester or Birmingham on Saturday, and is likely to have been travelling by train.

Although he had relatives and friends across Devon and Cornwall, he had little or no contact with them in recent years.

Detective Inspector Robert Bruce of West Mercia Police said: "We are working closely with our colleagues in Devon and Cornwall Police and in the Prison Service to trace Gilbert.

"We are assessing what risk he may pose to the public but it should be borne in mind that he was detained in an open part of the prison and was therefore deemed by the Prison Service to be of low risk.

"Although he was serving a life sentence for murder, he was being considered for parole and the circumstances of the murder lead us to believe he is not considered to be a risk to the general public. However he may pose a risk to those he develops a relationship with. We urge anyone who sees Gilbert not to approach him but to contact police immediately on 0300 333 3000.

"Furthermore, we would ask anyone who may be helping him or sheltering him to contact us."

Is that what he looks like now, or is that a picture from 1997?

Is this why there were so many police motorcyclists on the Malvern to Worcester road 17:15 yesterday?

He was wearing an Umbro t-shirt, a blue Next jacket, blue Henri Lloyd jeans, and black Timberland boots.........Just about says It all really, I can only dream of wearing branded clothing like that, unless I get lucky & find some in a Charity Shop or Car Boot.

What a soft touch the law of this country are to allow a convicted prisoner serving life, to have a day out. Its a joke!

I am wearing a pair of Calvin Klein jeans bought on eBay for £8, a pringle jumper which was about a fiver on eBay. wearing branded clothing doesn't have to cost.

Perhaps that's exactly what he did (or the prison equivalent). Don't jump to conclusions.

I think he was in cost cutter earlier. He was shouting about how the laws on copyright were unjust. I spoke to him in an attempt to calm him down in the beer isle, but he just kept going on and on about how when they lock you up for murder, you're able to choose whether you return to prison or not.
