Popular doctor is retiring
5:50am Friday 5th October 2012 in News
A WELL-KNOWN doctor has retired after more than 30 years of treating people in the town.
Dr Glenn Ralphs, senior partner at Abbottswood Medical Centre, Pershore, was given a rousing send-off when he left the practice after working there since 1979.
Dr Ralphs said he was sad to be leaving and wished the practice well for the future.
“It will be an enormous wrench to leave the team but I believe it is now the right time to move on with the next phase of my life. It’s been a great privilege and pleasure to look after so many people and their families.
“I have been overwhelmed by the kind wishes expressed by so many people. The whole team at Abbottswood have been wonderful and I am confident that the high standards of care will continue.”
The team at Abbottswood said Dr Ralphs would be greatly missed by both the practice and his patients. He has now handed over to Dr Justin Forbes, who joined the practice on Monday.
Dr Forbes qualified as a GP last year and has been working in various locum posts. He arrives as the practice plans to expand the building in order to create bigger and more modern consulting and treatment rooms.
Part of the neighbouring Cottage Hospital, which has been closed for several years, will be demolished to make way for the expansion, which also includes the creation of more parking spaces.
