A church has been forging links with the community.

Fernhill Heath Baptist Church donated a crab apple tree to residents at the Cedars in Droitwich Road to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Since January volunteers at the church have been getting to know the residents by cooking them lunch once a month.

The tree has been planted by Baptist church minister Jeff Porter and resident Ron Elwood at the front of the flats.

Cath Poultrey, church deacon, said that they wanted the residents to enjoy the tree.

“As we’ve got to know the people we thought it would be nice if we could plant it so they could see it out of their windows,” she said.

“We have only got a very small garden.

“We very much like to do things with the community. Once a week we do a bible study with Hindlip First School.

“We are always looking for opportunities to work with the community.”
