A CARING teen who continued to volunteer despite breaking both his shoulders was among the inspiring children honoured at an award ceremony.

Timothy Dudding, of Worcester, was one of the dedicated youngsters whose achievements were recognised through the West Mercia Police’s annual Young Good Citizen of the Year scheme.

The winners were presented with their awards at a gala event at force HQ, Hindlip Hall, Worcester, and in a change to previous years there were 10 awards handed out instead of one.

Now in their 25th year, the awards aim to honour those whose acts of generosity and displays of community spirit have made a difference to other people’s lives.

Timothy was nominated for spending hundreds of hours volunteering at five schools over the past year, where he helps organise sports days and community fun days.

He also set up ‘dads and lads’ football events and a youth football team on the Dines Green estate.

The 17-year-old volunteers at a local church where he helps run the Sunday school and has helped with activities outside of the church, such as an Olympic and jubilee picnic.

He continued with his commitments despite breaking both his shoulders because he did not want to let down the children he helps.

Meanwhile, Daniel Birch, aged nine, of Droitwich, was nominated by the Droitwich Challengers Gateway Club, a social club for adults with learning disabilities, for helping out at their weekly meetings.

Each award winner was presented with a certificate and a £100 gift voucher for the online store Amazon.

Awards were presented by the High Sheriffs of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire, with Deputy Chief Constable Simon Chesterman making the opening and closing speeches.

DCC Chesterman said: “Young Good Citizen is an opportunity to recognise and publicise the great work done by many young people in our communities.

"It allows us to deliver a positive message about our youth to the public.

“These rewards recognise great efforts for people of their age, the overcoming of barriers or hardships and making a positive contribution to their communities.
